Bloody Mary Chipotle

Enjoying a Bloody Mary invariably means that it’s brunch time. This version of a Bloody Mary cuts the acidity of full on tomato juice with the addition of seltzer water but made more appealing to my intrinsic need for smoky heat by incorporating chipotle pepper. As a result, I can enjoy several Bloody Mary Chipotles during the course of the afternoon without having to take a nap; and for some reason guests seem to think that it is important for the host to be present for the duration.

Makes 1

  • 1.5 ounces premium vodka
  • 2 ounces tomato-based vegetable juice
  • 4 ounces seltzer water
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle in adobo, minced
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1 lime quarter
  • 3 lemon rind stuffed olives

Combine the vodka, juice, seltzer and chipotle pepper in a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into a 12 ounce ice-filled glass and serve with the celery, lime and olives.
